The Spark

The Spark is a leading provider of couples counselling, marriage counselling, individual counselling, youth counselling and family counselling services in Scotland. We are also the biggest provider of school-based counselling services in the country, supporting thousands of children and young people each year with counselling.

As an SQA approved training centre, The Spark is at the forefront of counselling and mental health training services. Ranging from introductory courses in mental health first aid to advanced diplomas in counselling and psychotherapy theory and practice, The Spark provides pathways for individuals seeking a new career in counselling from trainee to supervisor levels.

The Spark is changing the way it delivers its counselling and support services in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. We are expanding our online counselling and telephone counselling services in order to support more individuals, couples and young people in Scotland.  Please read our latest update on how to access our services.

Headquartered in Glasgow our network of 14 counselling centres delivers a range of counselling and support services.

Established in 1965, The Spark has been supporting individuals, couples and families dealing with challenging relationships. As the nature of relationship support has changed so has The Spark.

We are now the foremost provider of in-school counselling and relationship education for children and young people in primary, secondary and post-school environments in Scotland.

The Spark’s mission

Our mission is a simple one: to make relationships work.

Couple kissing - The Spark

Irrespective of age, gender, race, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, relationship status, disability or income we believe that every person should benefit from positive, healthy relationships.

Whether relationships are with partners, family, friends, colleagues or neighbours making relationships work is at the very core of The Spark’s mission.

Through counselling and relationship support – including our free Relationship Helpline and Relationship MOT – we believe difficult relationships can be improved.

Good relationships are at the heart of what we do, just as it was when we first opened our doors over 50 years ago.
